The engineer's workstation is now the primary target
Binance traced its loss to one DevOps laptop. Anthropic's official extension on Open VSX carried an SSH backdoor, GitHub issues were abused against 61 repositories, and 26,400 live credentials sat in public Gitee repos. Production perimeters get the budget, but these cases start at developer machines and toolchains. Reconsider extension allow-lists, workflow permissions and how much a single laptop can touch.
AI is writing exploits and being attacked itself

Meanwhile, papers and incidents show agents are exposed through skill files, poisoned pretraining, runtime injection and embedded browsers. Speculation: patch windows will keep shrinking as exploit generation gets cheaper, while agent tooling accumulates its own class of supply chain bugs.
Cyber-capable models split into gated and open camps
Google limits Gemini 4 Carbon to select defense partners, and a day later Mistral opens a trillion-parameter model pitched at defenders. The two labs are betting on opposite access models. Speculation: attackers could use open weights as readily as defenders, so the real test is whether defender tooling improves faster than offense.
Internet-facing edge and CMS software keeps getting hit within days
CISA added a CVSS 10.0 GitLab flaw and a Cisco ASA/FTD DoS zero-day to KEV. Drupal Commerce Core is under active attack. KeyDrift, which exploits a Cisco SD-WAN flaw, is now tied to a named group, UAT-11473. These are all exposed services, so inventory and patch speed for anything reachable from the internet remains the cheapest control.
AI capex is being paid for with jobs and margins
Microsoft is offering buyouts to about 60,000 people to offset AI infrastructure spending. AWS posted negative free cash flow of $2.4B. Google says AI search earns less, and Oracle wants per-task AI billing. At the same time, Reddit says AI search sends no traffic. The spending is clear but the revenue is not, and companies are cutting staff and adding metering to close the gap.
