Five OVHcloud CLI releases swapped for secret-stealing malware via hijacked account

Attackers now poison release channels, not just code
OVHcloud CLI archives, Rank Math PRO downloads, AOMEI update servers and 94 GitHub repositories carrying a credential stealer were all compromised through channels users trust. The common step is compromising an account or server that publishes, and the malware then reaches users through normal installs. Hash verification, pinned versions and delayed adoption of new releases are cheap defenses. The Rank Math backdoor restores itself, so cleanup needs a full rebuild.
AI is raising attacker tempo and maintainer workload
Norforge reports an agent army breaching over 100 sites, and Terra reports more broken security fixes. Linux 7.4 removes EDAC drivers over AI-generated fixes and adds a taint flag in response to AI fuzzing, and 7.3 was a record LLM-assisted cycle. Speculation: patch quality and maintainer time, not vulnerability discovery, become the bottleneck, and projects will drop unmaintained code to shrink the surface.
Patching itself has become an outage risk
Microsoft's October update changed an Exchange default and broke OWA and mail flow, and a September Windows preview update crashed AC-3 audio apps. F5 shipped NGINX fixes out-of-band, and Terra says many security fixes are broken within 90 days. Admins need staged rollouts and rollback plans, especially for mail and edge systems, without delaying critical fixes like NGINX.
Power and debt now limit AI buildout
Microsoft dropped a UK supercomputer over grid delays, Amazon is funding small modular reactors in Indiana, and Samsung is expanding fabs to meet HBM demand. CoreWeave's bonds fell into distressed territory. The constraint on compute has shifted from chips alone to electricity and financing. Speculation: more hyperscalers will buy generation directly, and leveraged GPU lenders will face scrutiny.
Watch list
Apply the F5 NGINX fixes and check whether exploitation or proof-of-concept code appears for the three critical flaws. The coverage gives no CVE ids or fixed versions yet.
